Barbados Bliss: A Day at Carlisle Bay
Barbados greeted us with sunshine and warmth, I certainly didn’t think once about the November weather in the UK! Our adventure began at the cruise ship port, where we were whisked away (though you could easily walk) on a short 15-minute ride to the dreamy shores of Carlisle Bay. From the moment we arrived at Savvy on the Bay, it was clear this beach was something special. The blindingly white powder sand, crystal-clear waters, and that unmistakable island vibe. Top tip, go early, it does get very busy! We booked the morning excursion, but you were welcome to stay all day. Sunbeds and parasols were ready and waiting for us, included in the price, setting the stage for a perfect beach day.
The main event of the day? A Swim with the Turtles experience we booked through Get Your Guide. After an hour or so soaking up this beach bliss, we climbed aboard a little boat, it was an extremely short trip from the shore, to meet our new friends. Any confident swimmer could have followed you to the spot! Equipped with snorkels, masks, and life vests, we followed our guide, who enticed the turtles with treats. And then…magic happened! The first turtle glided gracefully past, a true underwater ballerina. Then another joined, and I’m sure there was a moment we made eye contact! With my waterproof phone case in hand, I was, determined to capture this encounter. At first I wasn’t quick enough. Then I managed some to get a few good shots and video too!
The experience didn’t end there. We ventured further out to a sunken boat, teeming with marine life. Our guide took my friend’s GoPro, diving down and swimming through the wreck for the most incredible footage—I’ll share the reel on my Facebook page and TikTok.
Back on the boat, we toasted our adventures with a complementary rum punch before heading back to shore for even more precious beach time. Carlisle Bay’s edge was lined with street food vendors offering a vast range of options—perfect for rounding off the day.
All in all, this trip was worth every penny: snorkelling, turtles, sunbathing and on one of the most stunning beaches I’ve ever seen. Barbados, you’ve stolen my heart. 🐢🌴🍹
