One Day In Bangkok

Reclining Buddha
The stunning, huge gold reclining Buddha

The roads into this vast city were not as hectic as I thought, until we got right into the middle of the city. Then the driver really had to weave his way through cars, tuk tuks, mopeds and buses at all angles!

My first stop was the Grand Palace where hundreds of people dressed in black, were paying their respects to the late dowager queen. It felt very moving to witness. From there, I saw the Emerald Buddha and the famous Reclining Buddha, both incredible in their own ways. All that actual gold too!

Next, was a ride on a long tail boat along the river. Let’s just say it was noisy, not the safest feeling, and the water wasn’t exactly sparkling. Definitely an experience though! Lunch was at a tiny local café, so cheap too.

One of my favourite stops was the flower market. Workers were busy making the most amazing creations. I’ve never seen such stunning flower arrangements. The colours and scents were beautiful and it felt like a calm pocket of the city.

What really struck me was the sheer size of Bangkok. Skyscrapers seemed to stretch endlessly and the city felt like it went on forever. With around 19 million people it’s a bit of an assault on the senses, but the friendliness of everyone I met made it all feel welcoming.

Bangkok in a day: overwhelming, fascinating, and unforgettable!

Would I go back? No, I don’t think there’s anything else I really wanted to see. Unlike Singapore, where there’s so much more I wanted to do and see. #bangkok
